set us free yea?
Jesus claims to be the way the truth and the life in Jn 14. He tells His disciples, and some other doods that The truth will set you free in Jn 8. He tells the women at the well that He is looking for worshippers in both Spirit and Truth (Jn 4)...
John was capturing this idea of truth throughout His Gospel...Even writing of the exchange between Pontus and Jesus shortly before the crucifixion in chapter 18.
Jesus told Pilate, that He came into the world to testify to the truth. To which Pilate somewhat flippantly asked "What is truth?"
He also had a pretty tripped out explanation of being in Himself in chapters 14-17.
....
so...what is truth?
The western christian will probably have a pretty clear immediate answer. But to root down the question to your core motive driving your life you may find something else.
What is my truth is the cultures question...but in action in your own personal life...what is truth?
Jesus? Security? Desire to be right? Comfort?
Im a bit unsettled at the lack of security around my own reputation, and future almost on the daily (you can ask my wife about it...not pretty). It's this consistent question that will run through my brain that speaks of questioning my life decisions, how well I am "following God" or parenting or providing for my family or ___________...
If I take the time to follow that rabbit hole without tending to "truth"...it will tank the day...potentially the week...and continue to worsen...
something about the truth setting me free is not always hitting the mark. It's bringing into question if the truth in play at my life is my truth, or the correct definition of truth. Am I in action, at the center of my life, or am I building my life on the correct definition of truth...
what American doesn't love being right?
Clearly, there is a process of sanctification at work in the life of any believer. Working out our salvation...It is Gods will that we be sanctified (1 thes 4.3), He is committed to it...
However, I don't think that includes exhaustion, busyness, depression, angst, and consistent relational tension...I think that may be the opposite of being set free.
Whatever your truth is, I am evaluating mine, and you are welcome to do it with me. I would love to experience the set free part on the daily...
I'm not evaluating what truth is academically correct in my mind. Rather I'm evaluating the substance and motivation driving my life, and just how aggressively I am addressing the combating worldviews in my soul...
Comfort, security, reputation, health are not great pursuits in light of the christian doctrine around truth...
Help me Lord...

Reading proverbs 17.3 this morning. My hearts motives will get put out before the Lord to be judged...someday? Sure sure we will all stand before a judgement seat - in the meantime we exist in the today.
Just how much do we really want our motives to be seen and known? To a degree, we can add some churchy language to situations in our lives and make everything seem dandy - try and manage or control the externals around us so that people around us have the idea that we have great lives. And we will all see just how long we can hold that up...
But really whats the driver in your soul. And how will that end? Is it monies? health? reputation? Trying to work out the grind of life so that I feel secure, satisfying my internal need for whatever the thing is.
A free heart has no need for external validation, no need to be proven, it experiences the fire of life and is out on display come what may. Its proof of trust in a God that is in control.
Check proverbs 17.3
Then check out Phil 2. ...
a pretty good indicator of your thoughts and attitudes getting the day going.
That first thing, first word could be to a family member, a text, an email, a co worker, the coffee barista...irregardless take a moment and look at it.
Most of us, myself included have some sort of routine greeting informed by our experiences, culture, friends around us - its generally trite, creating minimal connection, and continues us on our day.
My invitation is to spend that moment with intention and allow Hebrews 3:1-14 to guide you. That first word could be so much more...
The author is giving a recount of the Israelites allowing their hardness to be. He runs the hardening through the redemption of hope in Christ, and then challenges us to understand we are no different than the Israelites apart from Christ.
And then verse 13...the solid therefore. take a moment and read it.
The exhortation is not a trite you can do it, but a calling of the reminder of the hope in the Cross, the person of Jesus, the ...
