Heres a prayer you have probably heard...maybe even know
found in psalms 139.23-24
search me, know my heart, test it see whats there...draw it out even...
take a moment and read it for a second
"lead me in the way of the everlasting"
Whats the daily rhythm of being led into the everlasting? I spent the weekend driving to nashville loading up a trailer and driving back...it was a solid 1400 miles lots of time in the car, a stay in a hotel...all out of my daily rhythms. And was shocked at just how selfish my thought process and internal motivations were. I found myself distracted, and a tad irritated at the situation. Wondering if my life is worth anything...
very selfish insecure thoughts...on a good bad scale...bad...
I get home and the next morning and greeted with my wife telling me what she's been praying...
"Lord anything in our hearts separating us from you, please show it." This was followed by an emotional interaction that we will call conflict (between robyn and I)...
Now here we are on Monday and I can't get away from this prayer.
"Lord, lead me in the way of the everlasting..."
what is that for you today? How is the Father leading you into the way of the everlasting?
If you have been around here you may have heard my process a bit - but I want to invite you to put language to this prayer.
I am greatly challenged to allow the Lord to expose my heart...on the daily. The relentless mind renewal mixed in with the meditation of the Word of God - when I don't choose this, there is not a brash removal of this prayer - rather a subtle drift away from Jesus that ends with you being shocked at how insecure or inadequate you feel.
Simply try this prayer when you wake tomorrow - for a few days...
Over the course of the day, the Lord will meet you in whatever way He pleases and when the feelings of inadequacy come...
repent -
ask the Lord for what is true -
rejoice in being led into the everlasting...
Our Father is faithful - give Him permission and try Psalm 139 out

Reading proverbs 17.3 this morning. My hearts motives will get put out before the Lord to be judged...someday? Sure sure we will all stand before a judgement seat - in the meantime we exist in the today.
Just how much do we really want our motives to be seen and known? To a degree, we can add some churchy language to situations in our lives and make everything seem dandy - try and manage or control the externals around us so that people around us have the idea that we have great lives. And we will all see just how long we can hold that up...
But really whats the driver in your soul. And how will that end? Is it monies? health? reputation? Trying to work out the grind of life so that I feel secure, satisfying my internal need for whatever the thing is.
A free heart has no need for external validation, no need to be proven, it experiences the fire of life and is out on display come what may. Its proof of trust in a God that is in control.
Check proverbs 17.3
Then check out Phil 2. ...
a pretty good indicator of your thoughts and attitudes getting the day going.
That first thing, first word could be to a family member, a text, an email, a co worker, the coffee barista...irregardless take a moment and look at it.
Most of us, myself included have some sort of routine greeting informed by our experiences, culture, friends around us - its generally trite, creating minimal connection, and continues us on our day.
My invitation is to spend that moment with intention and allow Hebrews 3:1-14 to guide you. That first word could be so much more...
The author is giving a recount of the Israelites allowing their hardness to be. He runs the hardening through the redemption of hope in Christ, and then challenges us to understand we are no different than the Israelites apart from Christ.
And then verse 13...the solid therefore. take a moment and read it.
The exhortation is not a trite you can do it, but a calling of the reminder of the hope in the Cross, the person of Jesus, the ...
